First whisky as part of getting to understand my quest for my perfect whisky - hope to learn more as I try more!
I'm starting with the Balvenie, it was given to me by my brother-in-law about 3-4 years ago but still only 1/2 way through the bottle - it slipped to back of spirit shelf and was forgotten!
They say:
Nose: Sweet fruit and oloroso sherry notes, layered with honey and vanilla.Taste: A smooth and mellow single malt of beautifully combined flavours. Nutty sweetness, cinnamon spiciness and a delicately proportioned layer of sherry, with a long and warming finish.
I reckon:
Nice sweet nose. First sip was a little disappointing I got the sherry notes - wasn't getting smooth and mellow - more body and more a bit of burning feel than I was expecting. However as the glass went down and drank slower certainly got the positive warming finish. But I'm a novice so probably mostly talking crap.
Might try something a little lighter next time. Any recommendations? If you've read this and totally disagree - please comment!!
